1861-70 Issues, Better Fancy Cancels on Cover. Approximately 47 covers from the Richard Champagne stock on retail cards with his notes and prices, these have been selected from a larger group, with only those covers he priced at $300 or more, with about half priced at $500 or more, the vast majority are 3c 1861-68 Issue, also a 3c 1869 and a few Banknotes, wonderful range of fancy cancels with mostly good strikes, some highlights include "Preacher in Pulpit" from Boston, Waterbury shield and other Waterbury, shields from Chicopee Mass., Cambridge Mass., Boston Mass., Jacksonville Fla. and Burlington Iowa, strong group from Cambridge Mass. including Leaf, Padlock, Skull and Eagle, Anchors from Putnam Conn., Seeing Eye from Orland Ind., three different "Union" from Westhampton Mass., Horse's Head from Chattanooga Tenn. Balance of the Correspondence of Lafayette Twitchell, 1846-1908. More than 40 letters, many with covers, including letters to Twitchell or his wife Angie and others, some interesting content spanning more than 60 years, including letter of condolence to Angie when Twitchell died, some of the covers are in rough condition but the letters are largely Very Fine, Lafayette Twitchell (1829-1908) was from Elizabethtown N.J., he first went west prospecting in the spring of 1849 to California, in 1859 he returned west to Colorado (see lot 147 for the Twitchell Gold Rush correspondence), during the Civil War he was a Union captain in the 136th Illinois Infantry (see lot 579 for the Twitchell Civil War correspondence), see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Twitchell-513#Ancestors for a family tree and biography

Housed in two boxes, the best part is album pages containing mostly unused stamps, early unused commemoratives including Columbians to 50c, Trans-Mississippi to 10c, Pan-Americans and Louisiana Purchase complete, etc., rest of first box includes a number of sheets, First Day covers, collections of Israel and Ghana, second box with five musty albums but the stamps inside the mounts seem ok, containing mint 20th Century singles and also mint plate blocks from 1930s-1970s, overall Fine once the outer binders in the second box are thrown away
