DuPont Shoot Powders, Llewellin English Setter Champion Hunting Dogs. Outstanding mounted collection, the main portion depicts the 13 different unused postcards with multicolored designs based on paintings by Edmund Henry Osthaus, these depict the National Bird Dog Champions of 1896 and 1898-1910 -- all but one an English Setter, nine of these cards are accompanied by covers depicting the same design, all but one are printed on back and bearing Washington-Franklin stamps, some with enclosures (the four missing designs are not known on cover), also two additional covers for DuPont Powders, one with a scene of a boy learning to shoot and another with a brace of English SettersEXTREMELY FINE. Minnesota-North Dakota Field Trials Association" corner card, receiving backstamp, Very Fine, accompanied by copy of newspaper article about the field trials
1c Green, Louisiana Purchase (323). Straight edge at left, affixed on top of red, white, blue and gold ribbon and tied by "St. Louis Mo. Apr. 30 12-M 1904 World's Fair St. Louis" First Day machine cancel on cover to local address, some slight wearVERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE FIRST DAY COVER OF THE ONE-CENT LOUISIANA PURCHASE ISSUE. ONE OF ONLY THREE FIRST DAYS ON AN ACTUAL COVER.
Of the approximately ten known First Days, eight are on cards and only three are on covers. The other covers do not have an exposition cancel -- one has a pair used from New York, the other was offered in our Dr. Martin sale (Sale 894, lot 329). Only one card has an exposition cancel.

1c Green, Louisiana Purchase (323). Tied by "Springfield Mass. Apr. 30 6-AM 1904" First Day machine cancel on picture postcard depicting Bethesda Fountain in Central Park N.Y., to New Britain Conn., stamp also tied by "New Britain Conn. Apr. 30 10AM 1904" machine cancel, small spot at center of card of no consequence, Very Fine, a rare First Day cover with the stamp cancelled by two different towns on the first day, with 1977 AFDCS certificate, Scott value $7,500.00
1c-10c Louisiana Purchase (323-327). Complete set, used with 4c-5c and 8c Trans-Mississippi, plus 2c Pan-American, all tied by "St. Louis Mo. Exposition Sta. Jun. 3, 1904 10 AM" duplex cancels on 1c Columbian entire to Milwaukee Wis., 4c Trans-Mississippi with clipped corner and color oxidized, small cover tear at bottom and slight soiling, otherwise Very Fine and colorful, also includes an unused set of Nos. 323-327, a few short or blind perfs, about Fine, and a No. 620-621 First Day cover

1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, St. Louis Mo., Postal History Mounted Collection. Huge collection mounted one or two covers to a page in eight thick binders, more than 420 covers, includes both the Exposition stamps Nos. 323-327 used from the Fair and various other cities as well as many other stamp issues on Fair-related or souvenir envelopes (some envelopes unused and not counted in our total), range of stamp combinations including two Nos. 323-327 complete set covers, one to Vienna, Austria, the other to the Netherlands, lots of other stamp combinations, most covers are illustrated with advertising, corner cards, territorial, two whole albums of foreign destinations with Nos. 323-327 and many foreign stamped covers to the Exposition, also pages with Fair promotion labels, 60+ company promotion labels, etc., condition ranges from sound to some with stamp problems, overall an exceptional and colorful collection compiled by Melvin Getlan over many years, see our website PDF for a complete scan
1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, St. Louis Mo., Postal History Accumulation. Massive accumulation of many hundreds of covers unsorted in one large box, Louisiana Purchase Exposition related either by use of Nos. 323-327 or Fair-related uses of other stamps and stationery, includes at least fourteen full set Nos. 323-327 covers including several to foreign destinations and one with multiple 10c stamps, huge range of illustrated designs, advertising, foreign destinations, some with fair labels, etc., these are mostly the covers that did not make it into the mounted collection offered in lot 214 but there are a great many attractive and worthwhile covers in this valuable hoard, viewing recommended
1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, St. Louis Mo., Fair Souvenir Mail Cards. Four large (9 x 6") postcards, all used with various Exposition cancels and mailed, each showing a different view of the exposition, three multicolored, three are hold-to-light cards, one showing the Palace of Varied Industries building has advertising on the back, three franked with Louisiana Purchase stamps, all are creased to some degree (as are nearly all that went through the mails), Fine-Very Fine appearance
2c Carmine (332). Tied by "Bridgeport Conn. West End Station 30 5-00PM 1909" machine cancel on mourning cover to Montclair N.J., cancel also ties "Anti-Vivisection Crusade label depicting a dog laying down on a knife, Very Fine and very unusual
1c Green, U.S. Automatic Vending Co. Ty. Ia (343 var). Tied by "Seattle Wash. Jul. 22 5:30PM 1909" exposition cancel on official picture postcard for Alaska-Yukon Exposition to Stuarts Draft Va., Very Fine, the Type Ia is unlisted for Scott 343, it is only listed on the Alaska-Yukon stamp (Scott 371), the Belasco book notes several machines were in Seattle at exposition locations, the book notes these exposition station cancels are very rare, with 2016 P.F. certificate
2c Carmine, Hudson-Fulton (372). Tied by "New York Sep. 25, 1909" First Day duplex datestamp on cover with the 2c stamp from each of the preceding commemorative series issued up until that time, including Columbian, Trans-Mississippi, Pan-American, Louisiana Purchase, Jamestown, Lincoln and Alaska-Yukon, all tied on legal-size cover addressed locally via Special Delivery, backstamped "New York Recd." the same day, slightly reduced at the top, 2c Columbian stamp with a vertical tear, Very Fine and colorful, with 1970 AFDCS certificate, Scott value for No. 372 First Day is $950.00
2c Carmine, Hudson-Fulton (372). Part imprint at bottom, used with blue on yellow Hudson-Fulton Celebration Label, both tied by "Madison Sq. Sta. N.Y. Sep. 25, 1909 12:30PM" First Day machine cancel on cover to Brooklyn N.Y., cover with couple tiny faults at left, otherwise Very Fine and scarce First Day cover with a label from the celebration, this was the first United States stamp or label to depict an airplane, it is particularly desirable to have the label also tied by the first day cancel, ex Bianchi
2c Carmine, Hudson-Fulton (372). Tied by East Orange, Ohio Nov. 8, 1909 duplex on cover to Butler, Pennsylvania, with blue on yellow Hudson-Fulton Celebration Label affixed at bottom left, Very Fine, accompanied by a single and block of four of the exhibition label, which was the first United States stamp or label to depict an airplane (the flight took place during the Hudson-Fulton event)
2c Carmine, Coil (413). Guide line pair, tied by "Detroit Mich. Apr. 15 8PM 1914" machine cancel on cover with typed address to Philadelphia & Reading R.R. in Philadelphia, Very Fine, rare on cover especially as a guide line pair, Scott value $325.00 as off cover
$5.00 Light Green (480). With bottom plate no. 8016 selvage, tied by Hartford Conn. double-oval handstamp on cover to Olin Clark at Hartford Conn., slightly reduced at top, still Very Fine, an obvious philatelic use (handed back at the post office) but still scarce on cover, with 2005 P.S.E. certificate
2c Carmine, Ty. IV (526). Tied by "Washington D.C. Mar. 15 11:30PM 1920" duplex datestamp on First Day cover to Washington D.C., "First Day of Issue" handstamp at upper left, slight toning along flaps, still Very Fine, scarce, with 1977 AFDCS certificate
1c Green, Perf 10 x 11 (542). Horizontal pair, tied by clear strike of "Washington D.C. May 26 11 PM 1920" duplex on First Day cover to local address, Very Fine, scarce, with copy of 1975 AFDCS certificate
1c, 5c Pilgrim Tercentenary (548, 550). Singles of both tied by bold "Washington D.C. Dec. 21, 1920 2:30 PM" First Day duplex cancels on cover to Wm. O. Siebold at Washington, D.C. street address, fresh and Very Fine, unlisted in Scott with these two denominations in combination, Scott value as No. 550 First Day cover
