Sep. 26, 1861" circular datestamp on cover to Lowville N.Y. with General Prentiss and Map of Tennessee and Kentucky Magnus design, minor soiling and slightly reduced at right, still Very Fine and scarce design, General Benjamin M. Prentiss was a Mexican War officer and controversial Civil War Major General, he surrendered his division at the Hornet's Nest during the Battle of Shiloh and was taken prisoner, ex Cromwell

May 16 1863" circular datestamp on cover to New York City with multicolored Angel with Shield Magnus Patriotic design, includes original letter with multicolored Brig. Gen. Stevens Magnus Patriotic design, datelined "Camp near Falmouth Va. May 14, 1863", stamp with some minor perf toning, still Very Fine, a wonderful combination of Magnus designs on cover and letter -- the latter featuring the martyred General Isaac Stevens

Coulter", additional contemporary docketing on back, slight edge soiling, still Very Fine and scarce design, Richard Coulter Sr. was from Gettysburg Pa. and became a U.S. Army general

Union Patriotic Covers. Substantial balance of 49 illustrated Patriotic covers, mostly franked with 3c 1861 issue stamps plus a few 3c 1857 and others, generally divided into four groups, first group features twelve campaign or general officer covers, including Lincoln-Hamlin, Douglas, Fremont, Scott, Hooker (stamp may not originate), Grant and McClellan, next group of eight covers features soldiers or battles including two different Ellsworth designs, Monitor-Merrimac design, next group of ten covers are all Magnus designs, some on the backs, finally last group of 19 covers features flags and liberty designs, mixed condition with cover and or stamp faults to be expected on most -- or a number of these would be individual lots, also at least a couple of stamps do not originate, still an attractive and desirable collection with a vast range of designs, including some more unusual, see our website PDF for a complete scan
