James Buchanan. Clear signature as President at bottom of Dec. 30, 1858 letter directing the Secretary of State to authorize William W. Preston to negotiate with the government of Spain concerning commerce, claims of citizens and the cession of Cuba, Very Fine, several attempts were made to purchase Cuba in the decades before the Spanish-American War, this effort by Buchanan of course failed, accompanied by historical information on the appointment of Preston and his mission

Florida Better Miscellany. 19 items, including 1787 folded letter from Natchez, West Florida to Granville Mass. and carried outside of the mails, two part-printed post office dept. forms from examiner's office, document dated Feb. 7, 1777 from Pensacola (British Florida) of oath of an officer, eight letter from 1774 (transmittal copies) from Pensacola, 1823 folded letter from an anti-piracy patrol to St. Augustine, also a beautiful 1838 illustrated certificate for $1,000 loan from territory of Florida, 1840 folded letter from Newnansville to Hartford Conn. via Savannah, 1838 use from Garey's Ferry to Washington D.C. thru Savannah, few faults but overall a Fine-Very Fine and diverse group

1c-3c 1851 Issue, New York Bar Circular Datestamps. Study collection of approximately 30 stamps both on and off cover, 16 are Nos. 10-10A with the scarce integral single bar grid in circular datestamp used between Aug. 12-27, 1851, the majority of these are on covers, nine different dates included, the rest of the collection shows other bar varieties (2-4 bars) on 1c and 3c 1851 stamps, many of these also on covers, some typical small faults but overall decent condition and a rare assemblage, particularly with the large number of the experimental 1851 single bar circular datestamp

1c-$5.00 Columbian (230/245). 34 stamps totaling $14.79 in postage, all but two are Columbian issue including 13 of the 16 values, with two $2.00 and single $3.00 and $5.00, multiple copies of several cents values and two 10c Green Small Banknote (226), tied by strikes of "New York Reg" oval cancels on 11 x 12 in. large part of registered parcel front to Messrs. J. S. Morgan in London, England, "New York Reg'y Div. 11-4 1893" oval datestamp and registry label numbered "95802", blue crayon crossed lines tie some stamps including a $2.00, red London registered datestamp, return address for Drexel, Morgan & Co., some stamp faults to be expected on such an artifact and the front with some small edge tears, also a couple stamps appear to have either been moved (possibly fell off at some point) or replaced, but the four dollar-value stamps are all well tied to both the cover and to other stampsAN EXTRAORDINARY COLUMBIAN ISSUE FRANKING, INCLUDING THE $2.00, $3.00 AND $5.00, ON A REGISTERED PACKAGE FRONT TO ENGLAND.
Unlisted in the USPCS Census of the dollar-value Columbian issue covers. Described in the March 2023 issue of the Oregon Stamp Society's newsletter (copy accompanies).

Card inquiring about the 1930 set, and a promotional flyer of the South American flight, 1930 P.O. announcement has two small holes from mounting, otherwise a Fine group

Adams & Co.'s Express, Cal., (unstated value) Black on Claret, Newspaper (1LP1). Large margins, cancelled by blue "Adams & Co. Georgetown Jan. 14" oval datestamp, Extremely Fine, only four examples of this stamp are known to us -- some well-respected specialists in Local Posts have expressed the opinion that this is a fantasy issue and was never used by Adams & Co.; therefore, offered "as is" -- ex Mason, Ackerman and Hall, with clear 2001 P.F. certificate
