1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Position 96L1L, recut once at top, large to huge margins including sheet margin at bottom, used with strip of three 3c Dull Red, Ty. I (11), all stamps tied by multiple strikes of blue segmented grid, matching "Marysville Cal. Paid by Stamps Dec. 4" circular datestamp on cover to St. Louis Mo., "Jan. 4" handstamp struck at lower right partly over the address, cover wear and missing top flap, outer 3c stamps with creases, still a Very Fine appearing and scarce cover, illustrated in Ashbrook Vol. II on p. 361 (handstamp on back) where he speculates that "Jan. 4" may represent the date this cover became an advertised letter, the distinctive Marysville grid was designed to cancel two stamps at once
