Sale 996, Lot 3272, 1857 3c Perforated Issue - Type IV3c Etruscan Red, Ty. IV (26A var). Gorgeous rich color, neat blue circular grid cancel, choice centering with perfs clear of design all around, pulled perf at top left, Very Fine appearance, a beautiful example of this rare 1860 shade made even more desirable by its appearance on the much scarcer Ty. IV stamp, the last example we sold as part of the Wilson Hulme Sale 964 (Ty. III No. 26, on cover) brought $4,250 despite a pen cancel, accompanied by a note from Dr. Amonette confirming the match to Dr. Chase's color chart
