Apr. 6" circular datestamp on 1850's cover to Murfreesboro N.C., cover re-used May 10, 1864 for a Confederate soldier's letter sent from near the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House to Charlottesville Va., contents discuss the sender's battalion's movement and the "Yankee" charge, describing heavy Union losses and stating that "a good Providence has still been with us," a war torn cover but a fascinating dual usage, cannot be properly described as "turned" since the front of the envelope was used both times, as such a most unusual cover, the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House was the second major battle of U.S. Grant's 1864 Overland Campaign, and was fought from May 8-21, 1864, it is known for the famous Confederate counterattack in the "Mule Shoe", which Robert E. Lee was reported to have initially attempted to lead himself before hearing the familiar "Lee to the rear" calls of his soldiers, the battle saw some of the most savage fighting of the war and gave rise to the name "The Bloody Angle" of Spotsylvania
