3c Brownish Claret, Ty. II, Plate 3 "Three Rows" Block (11A). Positions 73-80/83-90/93-100L3, horizontal block of 24, deep rich color, numerous strikes of Philadelphia Dec. 3 (1856) circular datestamp, the right block of nine (Positions 78/100L3) vividly demonstrates the "Three Rows" recutting adjustments that were required due to the unintentionally wide spacing between the eighth and ninth vertical rows and the narrow spacing between the ninth and tenth vertical rows of the left pane of Plate 3, the frameline recutting done in a way that attempted to minimize the visual spacing anomalies, including the triple frameline recutting on Positions 89 and 99 (see Chase p. 101), faults incl. tears and edgewear, still a striking and extremely rare "Three Rows" large multiple in a distinctive shade which is known used in late 1856 and 1857, listed in Linn's U.S. Stamp Facts as the largest known used multiple, accompanied by a 1983 note from Dr. Amonette, Scott Retail as blocks of four, strips of three and a pair
