Sale 996, Lot 3028, 1851 3c Orange Brown3c Orange Brown, Ty. II (10A). Position 99L2E, rich color and beautiful early impression, large margins to clear, red "Ju 1(4)" town datestamp, most likely the earliest known usage from Plate 2 Early, while it cannot be absolutely proven that this is a July 1851 usage, June 1852 is very unlikely as the detailed impression is free from wear which is characteristic of the earliest impressions from Plate 2 Early, comparison of this stamp with the Chase photo of the same position shows considerable wear on the latter, Scott lists July 23, 1851 as the EDU for Plate 2 Early, with 1997 P.F. certificate and accompanied by a note from Dr. Amonette
