5c Red Brown (1). Horizontal pair, three huge margins, clear to just in at bottom, misaligned entries with right stamp printed higher on the plate than the left (which no doubt accounts for the margin just cutting in), tied by multiple strikes of red grids, matching "Portsmouth N.H. Jun. 23" circular datestamp and "Paid" handstamp on cover to Columbia Ky., trivial edgewear, Very Fine, the subject of misaligned entries was recently addressed by Wade Saadi in the August 2010 Chronicle, he surmises that the reason only five U.S. stamps prior to 1870 had framelines is because the siderographer had difficulty aligning the entries and, therefore, designs with ornamental frames produced a better appearance
