Large margins to clear including part of adjoining stamp at bottom, rich color, showing unusual dot in "U" of "U.S.", tied by two strikes of blue "Paid" straightline handstamps, matching "Poughkeepsie N.Y. Apr. 10" circular datestamp on 1848 folded cover to New York, vertical file fold well away from stamp, Very Fine, only eleven 5c covers are known used from Poughkeepsie, ex Sampson and Guenther, shade confirmed by Dr. Amonette
