Large margins to just shaving outer line at left, tied by "San Francisco Cal. 5 Sep." circular datestamp on small white cover to Buckland Conn., clearly struck red "Honolulu * U.S. Postage Paid * Jul. 31" (1856) circular datestamp, minor flap tearsFRESH AND VERY FINE. A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1851 USED FROM HAWAII, PAYING THE 10-CENT TRANSCONTINENTAL POSTAGE AND 2-CENT SHIP CAPTAIN'S FEE.
This was carried on the Frances Palmer, departing Honolulu on July 31, 1856, and arriving in San Francisco on August 24. It was postmarked at San Francisco on September 5 for the next steamer sailing for Panama (source: http://www.hawaiianstamps.com).
