Sale 984, Lot 263, 1861-66 Issue (Scott 56-62B)10c Dark Green, First Design (62B). Wonderful intense "August" color on bright white paper, light strike of red New York "Paid"" credit datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST DESIGN 10-CENT 1861 ISSUE. AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT STAMP TO FIND IN SUCH PRISTINE CONDITION. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH THE RED CANCEL.

The 10c 1861 "First Design" (or Type I from Plate 4) is extremely difficult to find in well-centered and sound condition. This is partly due to the narrow spacing on Plate 4, which was used for the earliest printing.
