7c Vermilion (149). Original gum, lightly hinged, beautiful deep rich color, vibrant shade and sharp proof-like impression, perfectly centered with wide even margins all aroundEXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN ABSOLUTELY SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 7-CENT 1870 NATIONAL BANK NOTE ISSUE IN THE FINEST CONDITION ATTAINABLE. THIS MAGNIFICENT STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE. IT IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.
Ex Grunin. P.S.E. encapsulated (OGph, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $4,900.00). This is the highest grade awarded to date and the only example to achieve this grade. As another indicator of the rarity of this particular stamp, we last offered it in December 2000 where it realized $5,750 hammer, which still stands as a record for the highest price paid in one of our auctions for an original gum example of Scott 149.
