1877, "Post Obitum" Official Seal, Brown (OX1). Two, used to seal top edge of officially opened short paid cover, used with 2c Vermilion (183), pen cancel not tied, "Providence R.I. Jan. 9 12PM" circular datestamp on reverse, blue crayon ms. "1c", matching "78" and additional ms. at top obscured by seal, while this cover lacks a Dead Letter Office handstamp, the presence of the Providence circular datestamp on the back and the crayon ms. markings on the front indicate very likely handling by the Dead Letter Office, rare usage as such
