VERY FINE. A SCARCE AND DESIRABLE MARKING FROM NEW ORLEANS SENT DURING THE SPANISH COLONIAL PERIOD.

According to the American Stampless Cover Catalogue, the "Nueva Orleans" marking was resurrected in 1799-1803 for use as an imprimatur on ship's manifests and as an unrated free frank on wrappers. Only five examples are recorded.
