90c Dull Carmine, Special Printing (202). Without gum as issued, brilliant color on crisp paper, unusually wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE. VERY FEW OF THE 41 RECORDED COPIES OF THE 1880 90-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING CAN COMPARE TO THE STAMP OFFERED HERE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT SPECIAL PRINTING STAMPS TO FIND IN SOUND CONDITION.
The 90c 1880 Special Printing on soft paper is notorious for its condition (thins affect most of the known examples) and typically poor centering. In this stamp we have the rare combination of soundness, margins and centering, as well as extraordinary freshness. We regard it as among the finest of the 41 in our census records.
Unpublished Census No. 201-UNC-01. Signed in pencil by E. Stern. Ex Engel and Golin. With 1957, 1989 and 1999 P.F. certificates
