10c Pale Brown, Special Printing (172). Without gum as issued, bottom sheet selvage with "No. 2" portion of plate number, full perforations all around without the usual scissors-separation, bright color, wide margins, closed tear in selvage only which does not affect the stampVERY FINE AND CHOICE. THE UNIQUE EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1875 CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING WITH THIS PART OF THE PLATE NUMBER IMPRINT AT BOTTOM AND INTACT PERFORATIONS. FROM THE EARL OF CRAWFORD STRIP.
Our recently updated census records for Scott 172 contain 36 certified examples. A majority of these have been scissors-separated into the perforations on at least one side. Of the eleven copies with full perforations, most have either pulled perforations or are not centered. This stamp comes from the Earl of Crawford bottom selvage strip of four with plate number and imprint. This strip was spared the usual fate of scissors-separation.
