Honolulu, September 30th 1866, Rev. A. Wilcox, To Honolulu Post Office, Dr., To Postage to date -- 6 Mos. -- $3.35"

EXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS HONOLULU GENERAL POST OFFICE HANDSTAMP, OF WHICH TWO ARE KNOWN USED AS AN OFFICIAL CORNER CARD. ONLY THIS COVER HAS THE ORIGINAL POST OFFICE ENCLOSURE.

There are three reported covers with the distinctive large red lozenge handstamp used by the Honolulu Post Office both as a corner card and as a postmark. The other corner-card usage was recently sold as part of the Floyd Fitzpatrick collection (Rumsey Sale 22, lot 1958, realized $7,250 hammer). It is also addressed to Reverend Wilcox, but does not have the enclosure. The postmark usage was lot 2213 in the Honolulu Advertiser sale (Siegel Sale 769).
