5c Red Brown (75). Warm shade, used with 24c Lilac (78), few perfs trimmed at left and tied slightly overlapping by large "Paid" grid, red "Boston Paid 12 Jun. 19" circular datestamp on "Floyd Off for the South" Patriotic Caricature cover to Paris, France, depicting a man on a horse with bags of money, red 1863 French transit also ties 5c, red boxed "P.D." handstampVERY FINE. A RARE AND COLORFUL FRANKING WITH THE 5-CENT RED BROWN ON AN UNUSUAL CARTOON PATRIOTIC COVER TO FRANCE.
The cover was sent underpaid by 1c but was accepted as fully prepaid -- the U.S. post office accepted the loss, no doubt due to similar sympathies on the part of the postmaster.
