Clear strike of oval handstamp on cover carried by steamboat to New Orleans and from there by steamship to San Francisco, light but readable readable strike of "From Steamer Gypsy" oval name-of-boat handstamp applied during first leg of trip, over-struck by bold "Way 6" in circle, "6" crossed out in manuscript with "41" rate (40c plus 1c way fee), red "New Orleans La. Jan. 13" circular datestamp, pencil "Mar" at left and matching "2.00" charge for express from San Francisco to mining camps (possibly Mariposa), 1850 docketing, some slight soiling and wear, still Very Fine, a remarkable usage carried first by the Steamer Gypsy to New Orleans, then by government mail to San Francisco, and finally by Reynolds & Co. to the mining camps in Sacramento, ex Knapp
