Stmr. Sierra Nevada, Via Nicaragua, Ahead of the Mails. Blue oval handstamp on small mourning cover with original letter on matching mourning stationery datelined "San Francisco April 15th 1854", to New Orleans, red "Steamship Pampero, W. C. Flanders, Master" oval name-of-ship handstamp, red "New Orleans La. Jun. 24" circular datestamp and black "Steamship 10" in circle due handstamp struck on arrival, docketed "rec'd June 26th" at top right, minor edgewear incl. small repair at top right corner, still Very Fine, extremely rare and unusual combination of markings for service from San Francisco to New Orleans via Nicaragua Route, the Vanderbilt Line's Sierra Nevada departed San Francisco on June 1, 1854, and the Pampero arrived in New Orleans on June 24
