90c Blue (39). Deep rich color, neat magenta ms. cancel, small thin spots and few nibbed perfs at bottom

FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1860 ISSUE.

Used examples of Scott 39 are considerably scarcer than unused copies, as they were valid for a short period of time and were only used to pay high postage rates. The magenta wavy-line pen cancel on this stamp is also seen on the reconstructed multiple of five pictured in the Ishikawa book and sale catalogue. It has been attributed to "Shanghai, China", but on what basis we do not know.
