Sale 937, Lot 273, Washington-Franklin and Commemorative Issues1c Green, Rotary (545). Mint N.H., radiant color, detailed impression, perfectly centered with Jumbo margins, long and full perforations all around

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS MAY QUITE POSSIBLY BE THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLE OF THE 1921 ONE-CENT PERF 11 ROTARY WASTE ISSUE, SCOTT 545. THIS STAMP IS A TRUE CONDITION RARITY, AND HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE, WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE.

By their very nature, rotary press waste stamps are extremely difficult to obtain with such choice centering. The production process was far less precise, resulting in many off-center stamps. The stamps were not meant to be perforated on the flat-plate perforating machines, which were set for a slightly different size of stamp.

Ex Killien. With 1990 and 1999 P.F. certificates. With 2005 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ, SMQ $10,200.00 as 98). This is the only example to achieve the grade of 98 Jumbo, which is the highest grade awarded to date. Only one has been graded 98, and that stamp is offered in the following lot.
