A GORGEOUS MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE $1.00 1917 ISSUE, SCOTT 518, IN THE VIOLET BLACK SUB-SHADE. THIS STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE.
Ex Piedmont. With 1994 and 2002 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ in any grade higher than 98, SMQ $2,350.00 as 98). Only four have been awarded this lofty grade, including one in the main shade offered in the previous lot.
