Sale 930, Lot 1332, 1847 Issue (Scott 1-2)5c Red Brown (1). Horizontal strp of five, margins to in, bright shade, pen cancels, right stamp pre-printing paperfold, tiny tear and crease between fourth and fifth stamps, some soiling

A FINE-APPEARING AND RARE STRIP THAT WAS PROBABLY USED TO PAY 24-CENT TREATY RATE TO ENGLAND.

The 1847 Issue was rarely used to pay the 1848 U.S.-British treaty rate, but we suspect that this intact strip of five represents the typical 1c overpayment of 24c rate, rather than a 5-times 5c domestic rate.
