Aug. 16" circular datestamp on 1857 folded letter to Paris, France, red "Boston Paid 12 Aug. 26" credit datestamp, French transit, receiving backstamp, embossed company handstamp at left, small filing hole at bottom

VERY FINE. A RARE COMBINATION USAGE. THIS IS ONE OF ONLY THREE COVERS BEARING A COMBINATION OF THE 5-CENT 1856 ISSUE WITH THE 10-CENT 1855 TYPE I IMPERFORATE ISSUE TO PAY THE 15-CENT RATE TO ANY FOREIGN DESTINATION.

Our comprehensive census of Scott No. 12 records only two other such combinations, both to France (one to Nantes, the other also to Paris).
