Paid Jun. 18" backstamp on 1861 folded letter to Manila, Philippines, from the Peirce correspondence, red "28" credit handstamp, red London transit, Hong Kong backstamp, contents touch on Civil War with some interesting observations, stamps slightly oxidized, cover with few ink smears described as a stain on accompanying certificate

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE USAGE OF THE 30-CENT 1860 ISSUE ON A COVER TO THE PHILIPPINES, FROM THE PEIRCE CORRESPONDENCE.

There are only three recorded covers to the Philippines bearing 1857 Issue stamps. This is one of two with the 30c stamp. Both pay the 33c rate.
