Sale 1348, Lot 1, 1847 Issue and 1875 Reproduction

5c Red Brown (1). Unused (no gum), large even margins all around, beautiful early impression on bluish paper, deep dark shade from the First Printing

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE WITH AN EARLY IMPRESSION FROM THE FIRST PRINTING.

With 2008 P.S.E. certificate as "Brown" Scott 1 (VF-XF 85). We disagree. At the very least this is a deep Red Brown (Early Impression, First Printing)—in our opinion it qualifies as Scott 1a, Dark Brown, but the impression is more important than the shade classification. It is also, in our opinion, a solid XF 90.
