Sale 1334, Lot 62, 1869 Pictorial Issue and Re-Issue

15c Brown & Blue, Ty. I (118). Slightly disturbed original gum, bright colors and crisp impressions, unusually choice centering with Jumbo margins

EXTREMELY FINE. THE 15-CENT TYPE I 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE IS EXTREMELY RARE WITH ORIGINAL GUM AND CHOICE CENTERING—THIS STAMP HAS EXTRAORDINARILY WIDE MARGINS.

A review using Power Search and our digital records shows how rare this is with such superior centering. For graded, there is one at 85 (ex Scarsdale) and one graded 95 (in 2005, this needs to be measured according to current grading standards to confirm its grade). The P.F. has graded one at 95 and two at 85. For ungraded, the nicest example we have offered was in our 2022 "Great Point" collection (Sale 1256, lot 2066).

Ex Dr. Morris. With 1983 and 1993 P.F. certificates as original gum. With 2024 P.S.E. certificate (DOG, XF 90; SMQ $20,000 as OGph).
