Sep. 7 9AM '98" circular datestamp and grid duplex on illustrated Sinking of the Maine cover addressed locally, depicts Private William Anthony addressing Captain Charles Sigsbee, stating "Sir, I have to inform you that the ship has been blown up and is sinking", Very Fine, an outstanding and scarce design, Anthony is credited with heroic actions during the sinking, including finding Captain Sigsbee in the darkness and helping lead both men out to safety
