Imprint on cover addressed to famed Confederate naval officer "Commr. Wm. L. Maury, C.S.N., Richmd. Va.", slightly reduced at right, Very Fine and extremely scarce, Maury served in the U.S. Navy for over 32 years, assisting Charles Wilkes' exploration of the Pacific Ocean and Matthew C. Perry's 1854 mission to Japan, he served as a Captain in the Confederate Navy during the Civil War
