Sale 1291, Lot 646, Confederate General Issues (1-5)10c Blue, Paterson (2). Vertical pair with bottom sheet margin, large margins to full other sides, both stamps with a small tear and bottom stamp corner crease, tied by "Austin Tex. Jan. 20" (1863) double-circle datestamp on cover to Major General John B. Magruder at Galveston, cover stain at top right affects sheet margin, slight soiling, otherwise Very Fine and a scarce use to this iconic general, who fought for the armies of three nations during his career (U.S., C.S.A. and Mexico), was noted for his leadership during the Peninsular Campaign in 1862 and who recaptured Galveston in early January 1863, shortly before this cover was sent to him there
