Sale 1291, Lot 638, Confederate General Issues (1-5)5c Green, Stone 1-2 (1). Full even margins, tied by "Richmond Va. Jan. 1" (1862) circular datestamp on legal-size "Confederate States of America, War Department." semi-official imprint (WD01) cover to Col. T.J. Warthen, 28th Georgia Regiment (name misspelled on cover), accompanied by War Department letterhead dated Dec. 31, 1861 to Col. Warthen and signed by Col. Albert T. Bledsoe, Chief Bureau, Very Fine and scarce combination of these two colonels, Bledsoe was a mathematics professor and staunch pro-slavery advocate who became a Confederate colonel, he wrote a treatise called "Liberty and Slavery" defending the institution as the proper societal order, after the war he was an architect of the "Lost Cause" myth
