5c Green, Stone 1 (1). Position 49, ample to large margins, minor gum stains and tiny scuffs, tied by "Pensacola Fla. May 20" (1862) circular datestamp on small cover to Shelby Ala. with black mourning trim on flaps, small erosion spot at center, otherwise Fine, the earliest of four reported Pensacola Evacuation covers, sent ten days after the fall of Pensacola to Union forces, the postmaster evacuated north toward Pollard, Alabama, and used his postmarking device on the way, the four dates known are May 20, 24, 25 and 28 (all 1862), ex Dr. Morris, with 2001 C.S.A. certificate
