Sale 1291, Lot 30, Florida Postal History: American Military Govt. PeriodPENSACOLA/Dec. 25 (1821). Two-line datestamp clearly struck on folded letter datelined "Pensacola Decr. 24, 1821" and addressed to Andrew Jackson at Nashville Tenn., manuscript "25" rate, letter reports an incident of assault upon an elderly and distinguished resident by a rash young army officer stationed there, vertical file fold, Very Fine, Jackson was Military Governor of the Floridas, assuming that position by presidential appointment after ratification of the treaty with Spain, in the fall of 1821 he delegated authority to underlings and returned to his residence at The Hermitage, this is a rare pre-territorial Florida use, ex Allen and Faust, illustrated in Lane book on p. 75
