1819, "Smyrna 25c Postage". Red handstamp on folded letter datelined "Smyrna East Florida January 1 1819" and addressed to Miss. Sophronia Camp at Durham Conn., manuscript "PAID" in large block letters, contents from a man seeking his fortune in Florida, small sealed edge tear at top, Very Fine and very rare, there was no Spanish postal service during this period, but there was an unofficial and perhaps illegal system of American post riders, this is the listing copy of this marking, and it is the only one recorded, ex Jarrett
