3c Dull Red, Ty. III (26). Tied by pen stroke, clear strike of blue "Fort Tejon Cal. Mar. 21" circular datestamp on buff cover to Lt. McPherson, care of Major Mackall in San Francisco, top right corner of cover nicked, still Very Fine, the only recorded example of the Fort Tejon circular datestamp, which was a U.S. Army outpost in use between 1854-64, Major William W. Mackall was a veteran of the Seminole and Mexican Wars, he resigned his U.S. Army commission in 1861 and served as a Confederate general, ex Beals
