Sale 1291, Lot 121, Florida Postal History: Statehood Period"Miami Fla. May 15" (1850/1851). Manuscript postmark on cover from Maryland to Florida and forwarded to California, originated with "Easton Md. Jan. 18" (1850 or 1851) circular datestamp with "10" due handstamp, addressed to "Dr. J. Leonard Adkins, U.S. Army, Fort Dallas, Miami River, Florida", also with "St. Augustine Fl. T. Mar. 27" circular datestamp, forwarded to San Francisco where apparently forwarded again with instructions "Via San Diego", various rate notations (including two forwarding charges) resulting in 60c due from recipient -- the exact sequence of rates is open to interpretation -- some minor age spots, Very Fine, this cover was the subject of an article by Dr. Deane Briggs in the Florida Postal History Journal (January 2002), whether 1850 or 1851, it is noted by Dr. Briggs as the earliest recorded cover from Miami
