Reproductions of the Plimpton Manufacturing Company stamped envelope issues were specially made for display at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. They were likely made from new dies with extreme care and show fine impressions and clearer ink than the regular issues. The die produced for the U178A Centennial Special Printing differs slightly in the right "5" from the regular production Die 60, and it was used only for the Special Printings. The UPSS Catalog records only three mint entires, one full corner and one cut square. No Centennial Special Printing entires are known used.
