2c Black, D. Grill (84). Unused (no gum), deep shade and proof-like impression, clearly-defined grill, unusually wide marginsVERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT D GRILL. A REMARKABLY FRESH STAMP IN TERMS OF IMPRESSION, PAPER, STRENGTH OF GRILL AND OVERALL APPEARANCE. THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES IN EXISTENCE.
The 2c D Grill is one of the rarest of the regular-production 1868 Grilled Issues. It is usually seen with narrow margins and poor centering. A Power Search review of original-gum examples did not find any with centering approaching the stamp offered here. For the P.S.E. Population Report, none with gum have been graded. For no gum copies, only two are graded (at 70 and 80). The stamp offered here, with unusually wide margins, is easily one of the finest in existence.
Ex Drucker. With 1983 and 2002 P.F. certificates.
