PHILIPPINES, 1944, 2c Rose, "Victory" Ovpt. (463B). Unused (no gum), rich color

FRESH AND VERY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT PHILIPPINES "VICTORY" OVERPRINT WITH SMALL "COMMON-WEALTH". ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL "VICTORY" OVERPRINTS.

In a series of articles on the "Victory" overprints published in Possessions, Geoffrey Brewster notes he is aware of four genuine copies of this issue, plus three he considers suspect. None are known used. All the examples he notes are faulty including thins and stains. One has no gum, one has part gum, and two have gum with gum stains. Mr. Brewster notes that the quantity of 41 issued, which is listed in Scott Catalogue, is not based on any official numbers. He estimates only 10-15 were issued, and also notes it is the rarest "Victory" among the ordinaries. Mr. Brewster must not have been aware of the example offered here, which comes from a multi-generational collection. This is the first we have offered since keeping computerized records.
