Dec. 12" (1850) circular datestamp on blue folded letter datelined "Black Hawk Mills 11 December, 1850", addressed to Dean Richmond in Buffalo N.Y.EXTREMELY FINE. THE FINEST OF THREE RECORDED 1847 ISSUE COVERS FROM AURORA, ILLINOIS, AND AN OUTSTANDING STRIKE OF THIS UNUSUAL NON-STANDARD RECTANGULAR GRID CANCEL.
1847 Issue stamps were never shipped to Aurora, but the postmaster or local resident probably obtained a supply from nearby Chicago. The USPCS census lists only three examples (all 10c uses to Dean Richmond).
