Nov. 10" (1847) circular datestamp on folded letter datelined Nov. 8, 1847 and addressed to Princeton N.J., stamp lifted and replaced, cover has been cleanedVERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE EARLIEST RECORDED USE OF AN ADHESIVE STAMP FROM FLORIDA.
Several of the major Florida post offices received 5c and 10c stamps in late 1847. Tallahassee received 1,700 and 1,400 respectively. This is the earliest recorded use of either denomination of the 1847 Issue from Florida and the only pre-1848 use (earliest for 5c from Florida is June 9, 1848). The green ink used to cancel the stamp and postmark the letter is an unmistakable true green, not one of the impure greenish blue green inks seen more frequently in this period.
