Sale 1283, Lot 1555, 1907 Jamestown Issue: Stamps, Covers, Balance Lots1c-5c Jamestown (328-330). Used on 2c entire and tied by segmented handstamps, "Norfolk (Exposition Sta.) Va. Registered May 10, 1907" double-circle datestamp, to Springfield Mass., May 13 receiving backstamp, 1c and 2c small surface scrapes, Very Fine appearance, the 5c value was not ready when the Jamestown Exposition began on April 26, 1907, it was officially released at the Exposition on May 10, the date of this cover -- which used to be the earliest known date of use (the EDU is now May 8, 1907), this is still a very rare May 10 use with only five recorded according to Brody, it is also one of fewer than ten and the earliest known use of the Exposition Station Registered datestamp, this cover realized $9,000 hammer in our 1981 Rarities sale, 1980 P.F. certificate no longer accompanies
