5c Brown, First Design, Plate Essay on India (67-E9d; Formerly 57P3). Bottom imprint and plate no. 3 block of eight, on original card backing so free of the usual India paper flaws, just a minor wrinkle near bottom, deep rich color, India paper clipped slightly at bottom left corner but not noticeable as the card is complete

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER BLOCK OF THE 5-CENT 1861 FIRST DESIGN ON INDIA PAPER.

The Finkelburg collection contained a plate block of 12 of the 5c First Design on India. Apart from that we are aware of no other plate blocks. Ex "Chesapeake".
