VERY FINE APPEARANCE AND EXTREMELY RARE. THIS IS ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE KNOXVILLE 5-CENT PROVISIONAL ON A PATRIOTIC COVER.

We have stated in the past that there are only two recorded examples of a No. 47XU5 Patriotic -- the Flag and Cannon cover from the Boshwit and Kilbourne collections (Sale 1186, lot 547) and the 7-Star Confederate Flag design from the Kilbourne collection (Sale 1190, lot 1504). This cover has been off the market since the 1960s and was not part of our records.
