Little Rock Ark. 1861 17 May -- Last Day of Arkansas Independent Statehood. Well-struck double-circle datestamp, matching target cancel ties 3c Dull Red (26) on buff cover to Wadesboro N.C., evidently missent (to S.C.?) and re-routed with "Paid" handstamp also tying stamp; upon arrival in Wadesboro -- after June 1st -- the postmaster at receiving office rated the letter "10" in pencil for 10c Confederate postage due, a fascinating usage from Arkansas on the last day of Independent Statehood (admitted to C.S.A. on May 18) and rated with both U.S. and Confederate postage, ex Walske and Clippert, signed Dietz, with 2007 P.F. certificate
