Jan. 2 7-45P 1893" alternate First Day machine cancel on yellow cover with illustrated corner card for Read's Collection and Mercantile Agency, to Foxboro Mass., recipient's docketing claiming first time seeing stamp of the Columbian series, reduced at left and envelope restored, otherwise Fine, the official first day of issue of the Columbian Issue (excluding the 8c) was January 1, 1893, which was a Sunday, when most post offices were closed, for this reason and the fact that there were no official first day ceremonies for new issues in this early period, philatelists have long considered January 2 as the accepted alternate First Day of Issue, with 1970 AFDCS certificate, Scott value $4,000.00
