5c Brown (76). Tied by bold target cancel, "San Francisco Cal. Jun. 3, 1864" double-circle datestamp on folded cover to Canton, China, red oval "Edward Vischer San Francisco" handstamp (famous California landscape artist), light strike of "United States Consul. Not. Hong Kong" circular handstamp, docketing on back "Oetling & Co., Colima 20 April , Recd. 19 August, Ans. 20 September", light vertical file folds do not affect stamp which does have rounded corner at top right, otherwise Very Fine, a very unusual cover, we are unsure what rate this paid, possibly an overpayment of the 3c rate by private ship via San Francisco, the docketing indicates this originated in Colima, Mexico, from merchants Oetling & Co.
